The Darien Police Department received reports of seven stolen vehicles and 10 others that were broken into between Tuesday, July 2 and Sunday, July 7.
July 2:
- A 2018 Black Porche Macan, which was unlocked with the keys in the car on Crane Road was stolen;
- A 2019 Land Rover Valar that was parked in the Eastbound Lot at the Darien Train Station was stolen after the driver left his key-fob under the driver’s side seat, though he stated the door was locked.
July 4:
- A 2018 Nissan Rogue that was parked overnight on Dickinson Road was entered, and items including a missing wallet with $800 in cash, a driver’s license and bank cards were stolen.
July 5:
- A 2012 Dodge Charger was stolen from a Fairfield Avenue driveway. The vehicle had been left unlocked with a key-fob inside;
- A nearby Subaru on Fairfield Avenue was also entered, with the items of the glovebox removed and left open overnight;
- A 2011 Subaru Outback was stolen from a Cherry Street home after it was left parked unlocked with the keys inside the day before. Four adjacent Cherry Street vehicles were also entered with the items of the glove boxes removed;
- Other vehicles were entered with random items stolen on Fitch Avenue, Fairfield Avenue, and Joseph Street.
July 6:
- A 2017 Audi Q7 was reported missing on Searles Road after it was unlocked with the keys inside. An Au-Pair spotted that the vehicle was missing in the morning, but did not realize it was stolen, police noted.
July 7:
- A 2013 Ford Explorer was stolen from a Post Road home.
Of all the stolen vehicles, only one has been recovered by the NYPD in the Bronx on Monday, July 8.
“Over the past week, Darien residents have once again fallen victim to car burglaries and car thefts during the overnight hours,” the Darien Police Department noted. “In the burglary incidents, every single vehicle was left unlocked. In the car theft incidents, not only were the vehicles left unlocked, but the keys were inside.
“It is clear that once again a criminal element has become aware that many Darien residents leave their vehicles unlocked with the keys inside. While detectives are spending many man hours investigating these incidents, please do your neighbors a favor and protect your neighborhood from overnight car thieves. Lock your cars and take your keys.”
